Two Hispanic-focused online music and broadband services are merging: Greensboro, NC-based online music service Batanga.com is merging with Miami-based Planeta Networks, and the two companies will change their official names to Hispanic Media Inc.
Planeta designs and maintains Spanish-language sites for Internet service providers such as Time Warner and Comcast, and provides broadband video in Spanish. Batanga, meanwhile, began its online radio service in Jan 2000, from Greensboro’s small-business incubator, and has grown steadily since. It has more than 1.5 million unique listeners per month, and the company expects to finish this year with about $3.5 million in revenue, mostly from online advertising.
The new company now plans to add Hispanicsports and auto content. The combined company will have 55 employees in offices in Miami, Greensboro, Caracas, Venezuela and Madrid, Spain.
