Warner Music has teamed up with Japanese telco KDDI to offer “mobile music bundles”. The bundles — dubbed WAMO packs — focus on a particular artist (the first one is Sean Paul) and include “audio, video, graphic and textual products in a single, downloadable file”.
Content can include “a variety of mobile music products such as videotones, mastertones and Flash screensavers and Flash menus…allowing users to completely customize their cellular phone with their favorite artist.” There’s also bonuse material, such as video commentary from the artists, detailed information, photos and cover art.
While this is not a great technological innovation it is a good move to offer extra value for mobile music, and I think is a good way to sell music on mobile phones. I especially like the Flash menus, which are an added extra that are specific to mobile phones. The price wasn’t given in the press release, so I have no idea if it’s reasonable.
