Farringdon Road Films, a British independent film company, has announced plans for a new teenager-targeted mobile soap opera named Brick-it. The stand-alone mobile soap operas I’ve heard of before have all been comic-strip format, this one will be a five-minute video. The soap will begin in January and run daily from monday to friday, downloading overnight for people to watch at their leisure during the day.
“The company, which is currently filming the first two weeks of the series, is also planning to tout advertising slots which could bracket the content. It’s also looking at the possibility of product placement within the programme with either generic placement or alignment with one of the soap’s characters.”
The article says the company wants to keep the show affordable — no figure is given but I imagine they’ll need to make most of their money from advertising.
