60 ringtones based on the music of the late Notorious B.I.G. have been launched, a lot from the new “Notorious B.I.G. Duets: The Final Chapter”, which is a mix of B.I.G.’s music with other rappers and hip-hop artists. According to the press release the “entire mobile community has joined forces for an unprecedented campaign starring the legendary rapper” and December has been dubbed “B.I.G. Mobile Month”, although no details are given to back up the claim of an “unprecedented campaign”.
This news is about ringtones (admitedly, they claim they are specially created for mobiles rather than just clipped from songs), much like the recent announcement of ringtones by Public Enemy. The difference is that Notorious B.I.G. is dead, and this is an efficient way of expanding his music catalogue for his fans. 60 new ringtones are not 60 new songs, but it is 60 new pieces of music.
I think it could be done a lot better though, by offering packages of visual and video content, and maybe interviews and so on.
