IMG, the sports management and production company, is considering starting an online fashion portal and buying more sports events worldwide as it uses newfound financial strength after its acquisition by a private equity firm, Vice Chairman Robert Kain said on Thursday at the Reuters Media and Advertising Summit.
The Cleveland, Ohio-based company is already a major player in the emerging mobile video world and wants to get bigger, Kain said at the summit in New York. “If people are in mobile, we are talking to them about content.”
IMG also is looking for opportunities in online gambling, which is illegal in the United States, and is mulling how to work with new media. “We may not be providing content for NBC or ABC in 10 years; we might be providing content for Google and Yahoo,” he said.
