[by Dorian Benkoil] There are a few signs that things here aren’t like a lot of other conferences covered by paidContent.org. Oh, it’s typical chandeliered and mirrored hotel ballroom (they call it a “Rotunda”) at the midtown Manhattan Hilton Hotel. But despite the “Digital” in the conference name, they’re not providing high-speed wireless access (I admit it – I don’t have an EVDO card). And in a room that now has about 25-30 people starting breakfast, I’m the only one with an open laptop.
Had a very nice repast with Dan Schwartz, the head of Digital Magazine News, and who’s running the conference. (Warning: if you click on his site’s publication, a PDF, it will take over your screen. Click the “escape” key to get rid of it.) Obliquely mentioned wireless access. Guess I should’ve been less oblique. I think it’s time for a: C’mon guys.
I could pay $15 an hour to the Hilton Hotel (sheesh) or walk across the street, like I’m doing, and use my $19/month connection at Starbucks.
