DNA: The story says videotones are slated to be a big thing in India soon.
“Several handset manufacturers and service providers have already latched on to the idea, says Bibhu Kumar, Vice President, Marketing, IMImobile, a value added services (VAS) provider. “Consumer surveys suggest polyphonic ringtones are already considered outdated, while true tones and videotones are next big thing among early adopters.”
“Over the next four years we expect close to 60 per cent of the new 100 million handsets that get added in India will be high end and support video ringtones and with faster wireless networks, we expect video ringtones to form as high as 50-70 per cent of the ringtone category,” says Arun Gupta, chief operating officer, Mauj.com, a mobile content provider.
I am not very sure how much of this is true. India’s still a mass market. And can video ringtones become a “mass” phenomenon that soon?
