Upcoming AP-MSN Video Service “100 Percent Revenue Share”

AP will provide the clips and MSN will handle technology/ads for the new video network launching in 1Q06. Jim Kathman, head of strategy for AP broadcast, tells Lost Remote: “Neither party is paying the other. It’s purely a 100 percent revenue share.” AP affiliates are also part of the rev share, guaranteed a certain percentage of ad revenues based on streams served. Affiliates can tie into the network for free but have to meet minimum commitments. So far, says Kathman, interest is coming from newspaper and broadcast affiliates.
But what could be the most appealing aspect for some affiliates doesn’t kick into gear until later in 2006: the ability to upload their own video paired with their own ads/advertisers.
