South Korea’s information and communication minister Chin Dae-je considers DMB-enabled phones to serve as a “new growth engine” for the nations economy… “As shown in the case of camera phones whose market share jumped to 80% only five years after their debut, mobile phones equipped with the DMB function will make up 70% to 80% in three years,” Dae-je said. As has been said before, just because someone owns a DMB phone doesn’t mean they’ll use the service — it’s free to use the camera function on a handset, but not to watch broadcast TV. Still, it does make it more likely.
There was no mention of the possible extent of export markets for the DMB technology, but obviously that’s at least as important as the domestic one.
