MTV Networks has made its second acquisition in the broadband video space, after buying out iFilm: it has acquired online gaming video site GameTrailers.com. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
GameTrailers.com offers (produces and aggregates) gamers a library of more than 8,000 pieces of broadband video about gaming including original productions, trailers and fan movies.
This is in keeping with MTV’s latest foray into video games…all MTV-related site have recently been making strides in that direction: Video Games on MTV.com and MTV Overdrive; coverage of video games by MTV News; Video Mods on MTV2; Video GameFix, Best Gamer on Campus, the Gamers Ball Tour and programming on MTVU and Uber at MTVU.com; GameOrz week presenting a blitz of games focused programming on all MTV screens; The Video Game Awards and Game Head on Spike TV, among others.
GameTrailers.com and its accompanying site, GT.TV, will continue to operate as stand-alone destinations. Jon Slusser, CEO of GameTrailers, will continue to run the site and join MTV Networks as VP of the GameTrailers business.
A good profile of GameTrailers is here on Next Generation site.
