Houston Chronicle Backs Off Of Registration

The Houston Chronicle’s Chron.com online redesign comes with a bonus for some readers — the site has cut back on registration requirements for most of its content. Registration is required now only for special sections/functions like posting comments on the forums, accessing print archives, receiving breaking news alerts and building a personalized comics page.
A couple of other interesting aspects: the redesign did away with a lengthy front-page headline list but, recognizing interest in headlines, added a “nothing but news” page with updates from across the site. They suggest thinking of that page as the “classic” view. In another smart move, they also set up a “where did we put it” list. Redesign FAQ | blog (via Romenesko and Rexblog)
