Research and Markets has issued a report showing that the value of mobile games in China increased by 150% from 2003 to 2004, to 800 million RMB. “One factor was the increased sales volume of mobile phones that support WAP, JAVA and BREW. Another factor was the decrease in charges for mobile games. These factors combined with the actual desires of the masses quickly increased the number of game users. By the end of 2004, there were over 10 million people in China that paid for mobile game services.”
However the market was expected to grow quicker, and R&M are now predicting an “adjustment” occured in 2005 when the market is expected to be worth 1.441 billion RMB… 79% over the 2004.
