Movielink Finally Adds Fox To Its Studio Lineup; Fox Revs Up Content Deals

Download service Movielink, owned by five major studios, finally adds Fox and some 1,200 of the studio’s titles to its library. Movielink CEO Jim Ramo told Reuters the service is nearing 100,000 paid downloads a month. Peter Levinsohn, president of Fox worldwide pay TV and digital media, told Variety the multi-year holdup was due to business terms. He added, “This isn’t about the money right now, but developing a legitimate marketplace.” He’s intrigued by the possibilities in “electronic sell-through” — download to own. Levinsohn told Reuters Fox would be “more aggressive over the next few months” negotiating content deals for online distribution and is looking into downloads of TV shows. This fits in with News Corp.’s overall emphasis on monetizing content across multiple platforms. Yet to be seen is how this will all fit in with the work being done at Fox Interactive Media by News Corp.’s other Levinsohn.
