Artificial Life has announced plans to release a new game in December — Virtual Penguins. The massive multi-user 3G game will see players take on the role of an Emperor Penguin to do all the things that Emporer Penguins do — mate, eat, that sort of thing. They will have to find a mate (which will be another player) and team up to have an egg and care for it. They have to look after the chick until its ready to fend for itself, taking it in turns to protect the egg/chick or to hunt for food.
“Players can increase their survival chances by building virtual penguin families that co-operate to help one another survive. As part of the game players also need to master a virtual penguin language which enables them to communicate with the other penguins and also helps them to recognize their other family members.”
This company surprises me on a fairly regular basis, and I think it comes out with some of the more innovative forms of mobile content. Back in August it mooted a massively multiplayer role-playing game but made no mention of penguins…
Incidentally, it reported its Q3 results on the 14th — it’s still losing money but revenues are rising and losses are falling. (via Textually)
