SingTel Launches 3G TV Service

SingTel has launched 3G TV in Singapore, making the content free until the end of the year before “a charge ranging from S$0.5 to S$3 ($0.3 to $1.8) per channel applies in the future”. There are currently 40,000 3G subscribers in Singapore…expected to grow to 744,800 by 2009.
“SingTel plans to launch two more 3G initiatives, called “Video Call on Broadband” and “3G Live Cam”, by the end of 2005″…meanwhile SingTel’s Australian subsidiary Optus is rushing to launch its 3G service in time for Xmas.

China’s 3G technology TD-SCDMA will be commercially ready early next year, according to the TD-SCDMA Forum…But Wang admitted that plans to make the technology a global standard were going slowly. “We have a lot of work to do,” he said.”
