The mobile game market has plenty of opportunity to create new successful game companies, because the industry is still in the process of working out what works on mobiles. Case in point, a newly-formed mobile games publisher — Your World Games — has announced plans to release a new GPS-enabled role-playing game called The Shroud… Players will have to protect a farming community from “mysterious forces”, completing side quests and solving puzzles along the way, and will be able to meet in real-world locations to compete for special items.
“We want to offer compelling stories, large worlds to explore, and take advantage of the mobility of the platform,” said VP Robert Sprogis.
I haven’t seen the game so I can’t comment on how successful Your World Games has been at implementing its idea, but the fact that a new company can launch a game with the latest mobility features and stand a chance of cracking the mobile games formula shows that the industry is still in its infancy, with a lot to learn. This is the place where innovation in gaming will come from.
