LATimes paints a pretty accurate picture of the dilemma inside Yahoo, as it ramps up its Hollywood presence. We’ve documented a lot of it in detail before, but this one has specific examples…Lloyd Braun, the ex-ABCer powerhouse, who’s heading the media group in Santa Monica, is creating some friction within the company, as the story illustrates.
The Santa Monica office was about ” ‘How big is my office? Where is my parking spot? You report to me. I don’t need to talk to you.’ It’s very much the studio hierarchy mentality.”, the story says, quoting someone close to Yahoo.
Shortly after he was hired, Braun converted a conference room with a patio into his personal office. He also reserved a parking space close to the elevators for his car. His top executives followed his example, fueling derision among some in Sunnyvale, where only Semel and lawyers who handle confidential matters have offices. But Yahoo’s top executives drew the line when Braun asked for a corporate jet…Semel is quoted in the story verifying this and he said no.
Anyway, nothing’s black and white, so this push and pull will continue, whether some employees and execs like it or not.
