Techdirt has picked up on a story about Voce, a luxury MVNO that has appeared in a number of places, and has actually dug up the price from PhoneScoop… “For a $1500 sign up fee and $500 per month, Voce will offer their subscribers unlimited voice and data, personalized live service, and new, exclusive handsets every 4 months.”
It will launch in New York and Los Angeles and expand into the top ten markets — from my point of view, a “first class phone service” is one that can be used anywhere, so I hope the company has some good roaming deals in place. So far I haven’t been able to find any mention of content on this service, but I assume it has to be there since Voce is majority-owned by Faith, one of the biggest Japanese mobile content provider. The service is being handled by Visage, which is also doing something in the backend for the ESPN MVNO.
Rafat: The MVNO will use Cingular’s network…Steve Stanford has been tapped as Voce’s CEO. Stanford’s experience includes VP, marketing at Boost Mobile and a role as an early principal in Amp’d Mobile (someone left already?). The service is expected to launch this month in New York and Los Angeles. The MNVO plans to expand availability to the top 10 U.S. metropolitan markets by the end of next year.
