Solo Blogging’s Financial Poster Boy Andrew Sullivan Moves To Time Inc.

After five years on his own, Andrew Sullivan is giving up the self-managed life and moving the blog to Time Inc. He says he won’t cede any editorial control but this is a way to take a series of new steps while allowing him to focus more on writing and giving his business management partner a break. From his post: “The blog has gotten far bigger than I originally believed possible – and much bigger than I want to handle on my own. Time.com, with all sorts of internet links, technical support and a huge potential audience, will, I hope, make this blog more accessible to more people, bring more advertizing and marketing to the site, and take the blog to a new level of exposure. We have plans to add new features to make the site more interactive and more easily read and searched.”
Sullivan compares it to the Mickey Kaus move to Slate but with more meaning: “Others will perhaps be better able to describe what this kind of deal means, if anything. I like to think of it as a moment when the blogosphere and the MSM made touchdown.”

A slightly off note: The announcement is right under a request for donations to a fifth-anniversary fund-raising drive that says “donations from loyal readers are a crucial component of our budget and make it possible for our site to remain on the web.”
