An interesting use of tech assets of the original Napster: it core technology is now being commercialized to enable streaming and download of full tracks of music on mobile networks by Swiss firm, T-Capital Management.
The company, bought by BMG in 2001, was renamed Digital World Service and that didn’t work so BMG sold the assets in 2003 to T-Capital.
Now the tech is being commercialized out of T-Capital, and is now underlying several legal mobile music download services, such as O2 in the UK, Vodafone in Germany, T-mobile, Amena in Spain, and SFR in France.
