Vodafone has licensed DRM technology from InterTrust, which is one of the companies in MPEG LA which is currently arguing with the mobile industry over licensing terms for the Open Mobile Alliance DRM standard… well, according to the article InterTrust’s patents will be included in both of the two standards being proposed, but I don’t think this 1-to-1 deal with Vodafone bodes will for the industry as a whole.
That being said, I don’t know all the details about the deal nor what is currently happening in the mess that is mobile DRM, but a fragmented DRM market won’t be good for anyone.
