Sony Pictures Digital Brings Movies To Mobiles

Monty Python & The Holy GrailSony Pictures Digital has announced plans to release movies for mobile phones on MMC cards, dubbed the ‘Movies on Memory Cards’ initiative. The movies will be sold through Carphone Warehouse for GBP 19.99, with some titles being offered for GBP 12.49 via offers on the Carphone Warehouse website. When you’re going to have a very limited selection it must be difficult to decide which movies to release…Sony has chosen Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Spider-Man 2 to begin with, which are pretty good choices. They will be followed by Hitch, Ghostbusters, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Stuart Little.
Some people doubt the appeal of full-length TV shows on mobiles, let alone full length movies, but Mike Arrieta, Sony Pictures Digital’s senior vice president of sales and marketing is predictably optimistic.
“People are constantly on the move today and watching full-length feature films is a great way for them to use their phone for entertainment while in transit…The overwhelming response to the initial two films made it immediately clear that there is a strong demand for high quality content within the mobile market. We will continue to develop products to meet this growing demand,” he said.
The cards are “compatible with a range of Nokia handsets including the N70, N90 and 6680 models”.
