A bunch of developments over the last week, all centered around the iPod/podcasting:
– Podcast Advertising Figures: Some interesting ad revenue figures in this BW story… In February, Volvo agreed to pay $60,000 for a six-month sponsorship of the monthly podcast of Weblog Inc.’s Autoblog, as well as advertising on the site itself. Over that period, the show was downloaded 150,000 times. This Week In Tech, an indie podcast with over 200,000 listeners, asks for $2 donations per month and rakes in around $10,000 a month.
– Audible Q3 Comments on Monetizing Podcasting: In its Q3 earnings conference, Audible CEo Don Katz said: “We are expecting podcasting to be additives on both the revenue and profit lines in 2006.”
– CBS Mulling Video on iPods: CBS is in talks with Apple for video downloads to iPod…Larry Kramer said a partnership with Apple is a strong possibility as long as the “economic proposal is fair enough“.
– BK Sponsors Heavy.com Content for Video iPod: Burger King, nurturing its love for quirky online video, is sponsoring online teen community Heavy.com‘s programming for the video iPod.
– Video and the Podcasting Star: Personal video podcasting has not taken off as fast as audio podcasting, says the story.
– Top Selling Video on iPod/iTunes: The No. 1 video downloaded last week: Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit, “Thriller”. The top-five list also includes recent episodes of “Lost,” a 2001 music video for British DJ and musician Fatboy Slim and a three-minute animated short first shown in theaters five years ago.
– Guba Makes Usenet Video iPod-Friendly: Guba, premium search engine specializing in pictures and videos posted on Usenet system will soon make all video content viewable on Apple’s latest iPod player.
– Vlog: Meet Your Next Buzzword: Vlogs are likely to be a better fit for portable video players like Apple’s video iPod than longer-form content, bringing purchasers’ ad dollars to good content.
