I’ve been expecting something like this for a while, and am pretty sure some games or companies already do sell the music from their games…but of course EA is huge. Basically, EA will sell the music that has been specially commissioned for its games (rather than licensed) via online music stores and seems to think the music will be listened to mostly on portable phones and MP3 players…
“According to EA, the move is being made because the company realizes gamers strongly identify with the scores and jingles that reverberate from their gaming systems. “What was once two notes from ‘Jaws’ and seven notes from ‘Star Wars’ is now another’s ‘Sims’ theme or ‘Medal of Honor’ theme,” said Steve Schnur, Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA.”
And mobile phones have video aspects, of course… “I don’t see why we wouldn’t take advantage of iTunes and their latest initiative and create little mini-movies.” (via Ringtonia)
