Media Lab Asia Looking For CEO; But Don’t Ask How Much Will They Pay You

DNA: I don’t know how much they pay for this; my hunch is not very much; somewhat in the range of government pay. But if you are inclined to do some social work, then this could be a good option. Media Lab Asia, once much-hyped research project, aimed at bringing down digital barriers in rural India, is now looking for a full-time CEO to head the organisation.
Despite the project being given a measly Rs 1 crore ($220,000) in the 2005-06 budget, it seems the government is taking a renewed interest in Media Lab Asia. The project, which was pampered with a generous allocation of Rs 65 crore last year, was virtually given a cold shoulder when revised estimates for plan expenses revealed that no funds were spent.
India established Media Lab Asia, in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), on June 24, 2001. A research and collaboration agreement was signed on September 20, 2001. But later MIT decided to pull out, citing differences with the government over the management of research projects aimed at bridging digital divide.
