This is the first time I’ve seen any financial figures to TV Guide Online..in the latest 10-Q filed by parent Gemstar-TV Guide with SEC, some interesting figures. Total revenues for TVGuide.com was $2.34 million for Q3, compared to $1.51 million in the year-ago quarter.
This portion of 10Q is instructive on the challanges it faces, also reflective of its print magazine issues: “TV Guide Online derives revenues primarily from advertising. For the three months ended September 30, 2005, advertising revenues increased by $0.6 million or 37.1%, as compared to the same period in 2004. This increase came from both the program and conventional categories.
Although our ad revenue increased, our number of unique users has declined by 10% as compared to the same period in the prior year. In order to continue our ad revenue growth, we must increase our unique user levels and have begun experimenting with paid search marketing and additional partnerships in an effort to increase traffic. In addition, beginning in the fourth quarter and continuing into 2006, we plan to roll out a program to improve our results from search engines. For the nine months ended September 30, 2005, advertising revenues increased by $1.2 million or 27.0%, as compared to the same period in 2004. This increase was facilitated by increased traffic in the first quarter and increased advertising inventory.”
