No Music Service for Samsung: Digital Media Chief Says Comments Were Misunderstood

The reports that we passed along saying Samsung was going into the online music business are being denied now — even though AP received confirmation from the company at the time. Choi Gee-sung, president of Samsung’s digital media business, now says his comments to reporters in South Korea last week were misunderstood and thet his company is not opening its own music service.
Instead, Reuters reports, the emphasis will be on working with its online music partners. Gee-sung: “We’re not interested in the online music services market but we plan to offer technical support to our partners to make their services easier and fancier and that would increase our hardware sales.” Samsung has deals with Napster, Yahoo and Microsoft.
