AtomShockwave To Buy AddictingGames; Plans Further Push Into Video

AtomShockwave, the online games and entertainment company, has acquired AddictingGames, a Canadian directory of the most popular casual games online. With this cash and stock acquisition (as CEO Mika Salmi characterized it to me, but would not go into the price), AtomShockwave is now the third biggest online casual gaming site/network. AddictingGames and all the company assets will be bought and the employees of the site will remain in Canada as consultants to Atom.

AddictingGames has the 12-25 year old male audience and that will help Atom is getting the right kind of advertisers, said Salmi. Games now make about 75 percent of Atom’s business.

Salmi said that his own company does not have any plans on its own sale anytime soon, even though he’s getting a lot of offers. In fact, with this acquisition, the company plans to keep on expanding its footprint. It will be looking at more acquisitions. It will also be expanding its online video content soon, said Salmi, though he would not give further details. AtomFilms is already a showcase for short form video.

It is a waiting game for the company now: Salmi mentioned that about this time next year is when they will consider whether a sale makes sense or an IPO.
