Local Matters Buys AreaGuides.net; Raises $20 Million Round

Local Matters, a new local search and directory company headed by MapQuest founder Perry Evans, has bought out St. George, UT-based local directory firm AreaGuides.net. Along with the acquisition, the company has also raised another round of funding…The $20 million round funding is being provided by Sandler Capital Management of New York.

AreaGuides.net is a network of city guides featuring over 33,000 cities nationwide.

Local Matters provides home directory publishers, mobile and directory assistance service providers with tech solutions in local search (formed by the merger of three companies: Aptas, ISx and YP Solutions). In May, it announced a $15 million round of funding…

The privately held Local Matters will use a good portion of the new $20 million to fund the acquisitions and the remainder for working capital.
