Vodafone Australia Promoting 3G With Content — Not Browsing

Vodafone Australia has launched its 3G service and is “strongly positioning its 3G service in the entertainment sphere with a lot more focus on video and music content than online browsing”, which is hardly surprising given the company’s track record. Vodafone has some good deals (such as Jamiroquai and South Park) which appeal to the mid-20s bracket…having a good portal is great as long as people are free to surf 3rd party sites…
“Chia Seiler, telecommunications analyst at Frost and Sullivan, said multimedia content would become a key differentiator for adopters of 3G technology, given that the handsets designed for the service were still quite clunky when compared with existing product offerings.”
