Dwango Inks Universal Music Content Deal

Dwango has signed a deal with Universal Music which gives it access to ringtones, audiotones and images of UMG artists, including Kanye West, Fall Out By and Black Eyed Peas. The mobile entertainment developer says it has developed more than 700 ringtones and audiotones featuring UMG artists. “Dwango is already offering the UMG content through its Napster-branded service. Ringtones run $2.99 each. Dwango also is selling images featuring select UMG artists for download at a cost of $1.99 each.
Apparently Dwango has forged a trademark and technology separation agreement with Japanese mobile entertainment supplier Dwango Co which means it won’t have to pay a royalty or licensing fee…nevertheless, it plans to change its name by the end of the year.
In other Universal Music news, Bango has the deal to feature a ‘browse and buy’ technology on Universals’ WAP sites so users can find what they want to buy, then pay for and download it. Universal has 300 official websites for artists and 7 WAP sites.
