FCC Chairman Kevin Martin told Business Week in an q-and-a earlier this month that the commission needs to find a way to modify media ownership rules that allows “these companies to compete with one another and with new forms of media and entertainment.” But the FCC also will have to provide better justification for any changes to meet the courts’ objections. The FCC will have to start proceedings again to gather more information from outside parties.
Martin also talked a little about the telecos’ efforts to get franchise approvals on a state-wide basis; deciding whether or not the FCC belongs in the discussion will take — you guessed it — another proceeding.
