iTunes VP Eddy Cue frames the launch of iTunes Australia as a new offensive in that country’s battle against illegal P2P. Downplaying to ZDNet Australia any possible legal competition, he stressed the idea of iTunes as a way of creating a strong legal market for music downloads. Cue’s pitch: “We have now sold over 600 million songs worldwide and have nearly 80 percent market share in most of the countries we are in. This is our 21st time, and I will say that there is no place that we have ever launched where music downloads have been strong prior to us.” By the way, Sony BMG is the largest lable without a deal at the new iTunes outlet.
Very cool looking at News.com’s play of the story through its new Big Picture lens.
