A survey by Textalert (an SMS marketing specialist, so factor that in) has “found that 72% of SMEs using text messaging reported a rise in turnover of over 10%. It also revealed that 36% of SMEs said that they were intending to use SMS to reach their customers in the next 12 months”.
The press release is available here, although there isn’t a lot more detail on the survey (although you can request it…). The survey also found that the biggest reason for resistence to signing up for such schemes is the fear of mobile spam…which is fair enough. Companies who want to use SMS marketing/loyalty programs need to make it clear that the phone number won’t be passed on to anyone else, as well as what messages will be sent and how often — and then stick to that. Textually has also put up a post on companies viewing SMS as a security risk…apparently it’s pretty much the only form of communication which can’t be probed effectively…”As yet, even the best electronic detectives have not found a way of retrieving texts that have been deleted. At least one form of communication may still be secret.”
