Nokia has teamed up with EMI Music Latin America to bundle free music-loaded memory cards with each Nokia 6230 handset sold in Latin America. “Each Memory Card will contain four full tracks, two from international artists and two from local artists, and will also be pre-loaded with four audio ring tones, four album wallpapers, a live video performance of “Other Side of the World” by KT Tunstall, a short interview with Coldplay featuring their current single, “Fix You,” and video clips featuring the local artists.”

The artists get something out of it — the “Music Collection will also come with a booklet that provides details about the featured artists and in selected markets, discount vouchers to purchase the featured artist CDs”…so it’s a marketing strategy for EMI. This particular technique would be useful if there was a specific demographic which bought a specific phone…
