Larry Jacobson, the former president and COO of RealNetworks, who was supposedly eased out of the company after differences with Glaser (oh well, who hasn’t?) and the MLB fiasco, has re-emerged again after about 18 months. He has joined CDigix, the till-now Engelwood,CO-based college digital media startup as CEO…the company will move its headquarters to Seattle, where Jacobson is based. Cdigix’s three major technology suppliers — RealNetworks, Microsoft and MusicNet — are also located in Seattle.
Cdigix’s founder and president, Brett Goldberg, 28, will become executive VP.
Along with the new appointment, the company has received $10 million in funding, led by Meritage Private Equity Funds and Novak Biddle Venture Partners, with additional participation from Iron Gate Capital.
CDigix has signed on 34 schools for its digital media service, a mix of online music and movie services. It is competing against the likes of Ruckus Network, Napster, RealNetworks, and now Yahoo in the college market.
