Mobile Linux initiative launched

The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) have launched an initiative to develop a version of mobile Linux for creating voice and data handhelds.  Members of the group are an impressive lot with Motorola, PalmSource and British Telecom, among others.  The group plans to identify gaps in the Linux kernel in regards to mobile devices and address those with a standards-based platform for building a phone version of Linux.  This is a direct challenge to the current operating systems from Microsoft and Symbian.
