Earnings: Journal Register Sees 50 Percent Increase In 3Q Online Revenues

The Journal Register beat the Thomson First Call estimate with 28 cents per share and $11.5 million for 3Q05 but net income was down compared to 29 cents per share and $12.2 million in the same quarter last year. Total revenue was up 12.4 percent to $138. million from $123.1 million in 3Q04. The numbers were boosted by a 50-percent rise in online revenues to $2.5 million for the quarter and “substantial operating profits” for the online business. Journal Register noted increases in job ads — up 50 percent — and “run of web” revenues up 181 percent. Page views were up 31 percent to 53 million.
The company expanded online ops at its recently acquired Michigan properties but it’s hard to tell how much that contributed.
