Yahoo’s Real Estate Binge

A rather haphazard story on Yahoo’s quest for more real estate, as it expands rapidly. It is looking for as much as a million square feet of new office space in the Bay Area, says the story…and calculates that a million square feet is enough space for 3,500 to 4,000 employees.

Within the last year, it signed a lease for 185,000 square feet in Santa Clara with Sobrato near the end of 2004…it also secured an option to lease an additional 185,000 square feet from Sobrato in a neighboring building. Yahoo has also signed a letter of intent to occupy 200,000 square-feet in San Francisco city.

At the same time, Yahoo also is expanding in Burbank, where a more than $80 million, two-building complex with 370,000 square-feet is already under construction. And then, of course, the Santa Monica offices..
