Namco America has signed a deal with United Media to make mobile games based on the legendary Peanuts characters.
“In his first appearance in a mobile game, Snoopy journeys through an imaginary war-torn landscape on a mission to capture the enemy’s flag, Linus’ security blanket! In the air, he evades as the Red Baron strikes back. Traveling as Snoopy, players will be able to interact in the Peanuts world in a way that is true to their experience with the comics.”
There’s a lot that can be done with this brand, much of it around Snoopy but I can envision a baseball game based on Charlie Brown’s team…
Apparently Charles M. Schulz (who some say based Charlie Brown on himself) requested that “the Peanuts characters remain as authentic as possible and that no new comic strips based on them be drawn“. I don’t think this deal breaks that, and is a good way to keep interest in a fantastic comic strip.
