Friends Reunited, the UK community site (much like U.S. site Classmates.com), which has been the subject of much speculation on its potential sale, has some new and surprising bidders. Both BT and ITV, Britain’s largest telco and commercial broadcasting companies respectively, have tabled firm bids, adding to bids from News Corp and another unnamed internet firm. The sale is going to be finalized in the next few weeks.
BT is understood to be keen to exploit the connections between Friends Reunited and its telephony tariff package such as Friends and Family. ITV CEO Charles Allen, meanwhile, is thought to view Friends Reunited as a potentially valuable property that could fuel opportunities to boost revenues beyond its core advertising base.
