Predictive Text Firm Tackles Mobile Browsing Problem

Tegic Communications — which makes T9 predictive text — has launched “a new mobile phone interface solution that could make browsing the web via mobiles a much easier task…The software lets users switch text entry options quickly between keypad, qwerty keyboard, and handwriting recognition capabilities.”
I’m not sure whether this is an actual browser or an input method used by a browser…the new thing appears to be the inclusion of handwriting recognition which is a result of a licensing deal with ScanSoft for its speech and handwriting recognition technologies, as reported in Mobile Monday.
UPDATE: Just got a press release which makes it clear that the T9 Mobile Suite 1.0 is designed to be integrated into the handset…”For handset makers, a unified mobile user interface makes sense, as it can help minimize development costs and speed time-to-market for new cell phones and mobile devices. Further, the T9 Mobile Suite is flexible to OEM requirements, whether all or only a few of the supported input methods are needed. In the next generation, this new UI is expected to foster enhanced discoverability of mobile applications and services, making it even faster and easier for wireless device users to take advantage of all their phone has to offer.”
