LG has shown off a mobile handset which can ‘pause’ a broadcast TV signal…of course it does it by storing the video in the phones memory, but the interesting aspect (which slipped my attention when I read the headline a few days ago) is that a user can answer a phone call without missing out on a broadcast TV show…as long as the phone call lasts for less than an hour. This is a necessary solution considering the “Law Of Cinematic Suspense” which dictates that a mobile phone will ring at the part of a movie/TV show which most engages the watcher. This law is in evidence every time you go to a cinema…
Anyway, TechDirt has taken this article and used it to point out that while a lot of storage on handsets makes mobile broadcast TV more compelling, it also allows people to transfer other TV shows or movies from PCs, TiVos and the like…perhaps obviating the need for them to sign up to a mobile broadcast TV service in the first place. An interesting read…
