Mobile Message Authentication

Textually has put up a post on an SMS fraud committed in China: “The fraudulent text messages told the handset user that they had spent a certain amount of money in shopping malls, and left a phone number for inquiries. When the user called, a fraudster posing as a bank official asked the user for his bank card number and password.”
I think it would be easy to implement a system where people could confirm that the message they receive on their mobile is from the entity it claims to be from. All it needs is for the software on the handset to be able to receive information from a carrier that is connected to a message, but not a part of the message, and then display it along with the message. For example, MegaBank registers its trademark and sending information with the carrier. When Megabank sends a message the recipients receive the message and when they read it they see an indication that the bank has confirmed the source. If someone tried to fake a message from MegaBank the message would show up but the authentication wouldn’t…
Crackers could still break into Megabank’s messaging system of course, but that is a lot more difficult. There could be some problems to this I haven’t thought of, but I think it’s a useful service to implement.
