No, this is not the hyper-busy Fox Interactive, but still part of News Corp: Uk satellite broadcaster BSkyB is planning to use up to 1 billion pounds to buy its way into the broadband telephony market in a direct challenge to its once-ally and now-rival BT. The move would allow it to offer a package of phone service, broadband internet access and pay TV.
At present Sky’s almost 8 million subscribers have to plug their set-top boxes into a phone line in order to receive the fully interactive Sky service. and the company wants to avoid that and bypass BT, which owns those lines.
Sky’s potential acquisition targets include Homechoice, an IPTV service, and broadband suppliers Easynet and Pipex.
