Realtones Capture 60% Of Ringtone Market

Telephia has released a Mobile Audio Report showing that realtones account for 60% of the ringtone market revenue, mono and polyphonic ringtones grab 33% of the revenue and ringback tones (which they’ve dubbed ‘callback’ for some reason) bring in 7% of the revenue.
“Realtone downloads are more likely to mimic the success of online digital music downloads given the inclusion of vocals and improved voice quality,” said Kanishka Agarwal, Vice President of New Products, Telephia. “Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl is a great example, as the song has topped both the realtone and online digital download charts, but did not make it into the top 20 for mono/polyphonic ringtone charts.”
As for the different music genre’s, the report found the top five ringtone genres by revenue share were:

  • Rap/Hip-Hop 25%
  • Pop 17%
  • Soul/R&B 14%
  • Voice/Sound 11%
  • Alternative/Punk 9%
