India Mobile Gaming To Expand 700% By 2010

Pyramid Research has released its BRIC Mobile Data Adoption Study (BRIC being Brazil, Russia, India and China — which have large populations but no other apparent things in common) and compared them to the UK. India seems to be the most promising…
“Of the 355 respondents in India that identified themselves as mobile data users, 32% said that they play mobile games monthly, exceeding the UK mark of 15%…”Almost a third of Indian mobile data users were restricted from mobile gaming by a lack of sophisticated handset availability,” says Pyramid Research Senior Analyst Nick Holland. Since 94% of mobile handsets in India operate on either GSM or CDMA One standards with minimal data capabilities, Pyramid Research believes that the upgrade cycle could mean the mobile gaming market in India could expand by 700% by 2010, to more than US$200 million annually.
Interestingly, only 3.9% of Indians have claimed to “have tried mobile gaming just once”, compared to between 8% and 20% in other countries…
Pyramid Research also asked how the carriers had informed the respondents about mobile content, and most of them had not received information…there’s a very interesting graph there.
