On the eve of DirecTV’s DVR rollout, Dish Network parent EchoStar steals a little thunder with new media hardware of its own. EchoStar is thinking a lot smaller — literally — than News Corp.’s DirecTV: the company is pitching its own portable media player for tv programs and movies, digital music and digital photos.
Some details from AP: Dubbed the PocketDish, prices range from $329 to $599 depending on screen size and hard drive; the max is 7 inches, 40 gig. The device can record from a variety of other devices and can do rapid transfers from some Dish DVRs.
It’s being sold through local Dish retailers.
