Industry Moves: AP Appointments; CMP’s Podcast Evangelist

Some industry moves announced today:

AP: A reorganization of the Newspaper & New Media Markets department of The Associated Press. John O. Lumpkin, Sue Cross and Tom Slaughter will take on expanded responsibilities: Lumpkin becomes VP of business operations, Cross VP of newspapers online and Slaughter VPt of admin. Cross will be responsible for managing AP’s online services to member newspapers, improving current services and developing new content and technology offerings to help U.S. newspapers cultivate their online audiences and businesses.

Also, Jim Williams, VP of Broadcast Services, will have global responsibility for the news agency’s broadcast business, and Jane Seagrave, VP of New Media Markets, for all new-media business outside of the newspaper and broadcast markets.

CMP: CMP Media, the tech trade media company, has named Curtis Franklin as “Podcast Evangelist”. Franklin reports to Tom Smith, who started earlier this month in the newly created position of director of advanced content development for CMP’s TechWeb. Aside from podcasting, Smith will be looking at “any editorial content delivery that is not text on a page–blogs, RSS, videocasting, interactive graphics, wikis and more–and considering ways it could be applied by any CMP site that sees value for its audience.”
