Responsible for working with the Online Development Team in building and maintaining the NPR web site and its supporting applications.
Bachelors in Computer Science or related field, or relevant experience in the workplace required. At least three years of experience developing web-based applications in Java, Struts and JSP; knowledge of PHP and Perl is a plus; at least three years of experience in database development and SQL is required; knowledge of Oracle and PL/SQL is a plus; demonstrated knowledge of versioning and deployment software desirable, preferably CVS and Ant; must b comfortable working in UNIX/Linux environments, as well as in Windows; must have working knowledge of HTML and JavaScript; understanding of CSS is a plus; experience with XML is desirable; experience in writing automated test scripts against web-based applications is essential; excellent problem solving skills and the persistence necessary to track problems to resolution; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complicated technical ideas to non-technical people; media industry experience preferred, including knowledge of streaming media; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
